The Escapist Dream.

I recently visited one of the sets for the movie “War of the Worlds”. It is the set of the crashed aircraft scene, placed at the massively, sprawling Universal Studios at Universal City, Hollywood,  California. An impressive and incredible amount of work was required to move an actual aircraft to this site.

It’s a really huge set, located in an equally impressive and expansive movie studio. The Universal Studio is the biggest of it’s kind in the whole world. More than 400 acres.

And it got me thinking. What does it say of humanity and the human condition that we have built a globe-spanning entertainment industrial complex, based on make-believe, based on an illusion , based on a fictional and non-existent reality, simply put, based on a lie.

I totally love the movies. But I can’t help but marvel and wonder at the fact that we have invested and continue to invest a great amount of time and detail, just to create these massive and immersive escapist realities. 3-D movie visual spectacles, 2-D movies, premium TV shows and our new binge watching habits (I’m also guilty of this lol).

What is it that drives us into these sensory, incredibly, visually stunning “fake” worlds ? There are a couple of reasons, some of which are legitimate in my view.

But in a lot of cases, the goal is to escape the boundaries of our actual life realities. Why ? Could it be because we don’t know better? We seek escapism at the expense of the truly, life-changing reality and pathway that is freely available to us.

We really do have access to a different reality that precisely diagnoses the state and cause of the human condition, then offers a solution, a cure. This solution is embodied in the Person of The Christ.

He offers a reality that supersedes our current, physical reality. A reality that is not escapist. A reality that has the supranatural ability to transform our current natural reality.

His solution, is based on resetting the Creator-Creature relationship of humankind. And reinstating us to a level and quality of life that is far above our sense-based escapist dreams. Far above our current natural realities.

Considering that the Leaders and Captains of the global entertainment industrial complex, have successfully sold us on the virtues of this make-believe world, will they and the rest of humanity retain the psychological bandwidth required to pause, listen, consider and accept the offer of our Messiah, our Solution, our Creator, our Resetter and Mediator, in the Person of The Christ, Jesus ?

He that has precisely diagnosed the state of the human condition. And offered Himself as the Solution and Pathway to the reality that changes all other realities. And restore us to the proper Creator-Creature relationship.

Selah!

  1. Thanks Charlie, for sharing this experience with the world. This is a well thought out topic worth dwelling on. Thing is, there is a vacuum in the hearts of human beings that only God can fill. We as human beings go to several lengths to fill that vacuum with all sorts of activities in exchange for our time and money but true and lasting satisfaction comes from our Creator, God Almighty.
Knowing human beings are drawn to graphical illustrations, it is no surprise movie makers have gone over and beyond to attract our attention and get us addicted to movies. They put in a lot of efforts to make something untrue look real. Many people rather live in FantasyLand than live in reality so there is big profit in building an empire on fiction and getting us captivated.
Oh! How I was excited when I got the notification that my PS5 had been delivered! I could not wait to indulge. Lol! So, Hollywood capitalizes on this “need” to provide a solution to people who would spend time watching movies to drawn their troubles for a short period. The brainwashing is real so it is important we guard our hearts with all diligence as we exchange our time for some fantasy.
Thank you for this blog post. 👍

Knowing human beings are drawn to graphical illustrations, it is no surprise movie makers have gone over and beyond to attract our attention and have gotten us addicted to movies. Their imaginations run wild, and I give them credit for creativity. They put in a lot of work to make something untrue look real, and it has been working on us for years. Lol. Many people rather live in FantasyLand than face reality so they have a big market there. Many are now addicted to these products that take one’s mind away from real issues. You captioned it best – “The Escapist Dream”.
Oh!! How excited I was when I got the notification that my PS5 had been delivered! I could not wait to unbox it, set it up and indulge. Lol… So, Hollywood capitalizes on this “need” to provide a solution to people who would rather spend time watching movies for entertainment or to drown their sorrows for a short period than face reality. The brainwashing is real, so it is important we guard our hearts with all diligence as we exchange our time for some unreality/fantasy.
